Buying a Car in WA? How the Member Car Buying Service Works
Buying a car should be exciting — but between the dealership back-and-forth, the on-road costs and the finance pitch, it rarely feels that way. Here's how ShopRite members take the stress (and a chunk of the price) out of their next car.
Why buying a car on your own is hard work
The list price is only the start. There's the negotiation, the trade-in valuation, the dealer add-ons, the finance and insurance pitch at the desk, and the nagging feeling that the person across the table does this every day and you don't. Even when you land a good deal, you've usually spent hours and a fair bit of energy getting there.
How the ShopRite car buying service works
Instead of doing it solo, you hand it to our vehicle team. Tell us the car you want, and they use members' combined fleet buying power to negotiate a sharp price on your behalf — then handle the back-and-forth so you don't have to. A car Relationship Manager is assigned to your request and contacts you to talk through the options.
The flow is simple:
- Tell us the make, model and variant you're after (online or in the ShopRite app).
- Your Relationship Manager negotiates a price and lays out your options.
- You decide — no pressure, no obligation to proceed.
New, demo or used
The service isn't limited to brand-new cars. Members use it for:
- New vehicles — the core of the service, priced through fleet buying power.
- Demo and ex-display cars — near-new, often at a noticeable saving.
- Used vehicles — submit a request and the team can help with second-hand buys too.
You can see the full vehicle buying service and start a request from there.
Finance and novated leasing
Paying outright isn't the only path. The team can also walk you through finance options and novated leasing — a salary-packaging arrangement that can offer tax savings for some people, depending on your income, the vehicle and your employer's setup.
What to have ready
A clear brief gets you a faster, sharper result:
- The make, model and variant you want (and colour/options if they matter to you).
- Whether you have a trade-in.
- How you'd like to pay — outright, finance, or you'd like to hear about novated leasing.
- Your timing, and where in WA you are (the team works with members right across the state).
What members say
This is the 5th car I've bought with Mike's help. I contacted ShopRite through the website, gave him the details of the WRX I wanted and my trade options, and it was all sorted smoothly and at the right price — as usual. Collected the car yesterday and couldn't be happier.— Jim, WA member
I recently bought a brand new Subaru Crosstrek through ShopRite — a brilliant, stress-free way to trade your old car in and buy a new one. On top of a good sales experience, you get a very decent discount. Easy and quick from the first enquiry in the app to drive-away. I wish I'd used them sooner.— Don, WA member
Phenomenal! The team made buying my new car smooth and stress-free from start to finish. Communication was outstanding — they kept me informed at every step and always followed through. Genuinely great customer care. Highly recommend ShopRite.— Lee, WA member
That's the point of the service: the same car you wanted, without the dealership grind — and often at a better price than you'd have negotiated yourself.
Regional WA members welcome
You don't need to live in the Perth metro to use it. The vehicle team regularly helps members in regional WA — one member coming from Kalgoorlie to Perth said the team "made some miracles happen." Wherever you are in the state, you can submit your request and have a Relationship Manager take it from there.
Frequently asked questions
Do I have to be a member?
Yes — the service is for Western Australian members of participating unions and associations. If your organisation takes part, joining is free.
Can you help with finance or a novated lease?
Yes — the team can explain finance options and novated leasing and help you see if you qualify. Whether it suits you depends on your circumstances.
What do you ask of members?
Just one thing: back the service that's working for you. Our vehicle specialist puts in real legwork to negotiate a genuine member price, so when we've sourced you a great deal, we ask that you complete the purchase through ShopRite — rather than taking our price to a dealer to try to undercut it. That support and loyalty is what keeps our buying power strong and the savings flowing, for you, for fellow members, and for everyone who uses the service in years to come.
Thinking about your next car?
If your organisation participates, joining is free — then let the vehicle team chase the price while you skip the dealership grind.
